New Technology and Strategies
Trench Warfare
_Trench Warfare
was an effective battle plan in World War I. Soldiers would dig trenches
in the ground and just keep shooting. Both sides of a battle usually
dug trenches to escape gunfire so the battles lasted a while. A lot of
soldiers died though while trying to run across to the other team's
trenches. Before they could get there they would be shot down. So this
area between two trenches were called "no mans land". This resulted in many more casualties then there already was.
Dogfights
_Dogfights were a
new technology for planes to start being more effective in the war
besides just viewing the battlefield for a country's advantage.
Scientists developed machine guns to shoot through a propellers blades
on a plane and timed it so it wouldn't shoot the propellers as soon as
it shot so all the planes wouldn't just crash every time they tried to
fight. This didn't help the fighting to much. Mostly planes still only
helped see the battlefield from a bird's eye view.
